Battle of Cloyd's Mountain

The Battle of Cloyd’s Mountain is a Civil War battle that took place in Southwestern Virginia near the town of Dublin in the spring of 1864. Union forces plunge through the Blue Ridge Mountains from West Virginia toward a strategic Confederate railroad bridge over the New River at where is now Radford with the intent to destroy it.  Confederate forces and the local home guard quickly assemble to engage the Union troops on open farmland south of Cloyd's Mountain and northwest of the bridge.
